Leaders & Staff TestimoniesI was jailed for drug
trafficking in 1979 when I was 18. I was released at 20 but instead of changing
my ways I expanded my drug trafficking business. I thought I was crafty and
smart because I often managed to keep one step ahead of anti-narcotics raids.
As my earnings surged I became even more confident and was able to continue my
drug consumption even when in jail.
During the Lunar New
Year of 2009 a Breakthrough Missions brother, an ex-drug addict old friend
visited me. When he saw the table full of drugs he urged me to quit, turn to
Jesus and join Breakthrough Missions to start again. I ignored him for my
thoughts were only on finding more money to satisfy the lusts of the flesh.
I was re-arrested in
2011 with 556 gm of heroin on me and given a 7-year jail sentence. The amount far
exceeded 15 gm, which carried the mandatory death sentence under Singapore law.
While waiting for the test results I was very nervous for I did not want to die
young. When the results showed that the drug contained only 6.8 gm pure heroin I
experienced the ecstatic feeling of escape from death.
I recalled that while
waiting for the test results a young Malay cellmate greeted me softly. He was
one of my clients and was now serving a 20-year sentence. A deep sense of guilt
swept over me for my drug trafficking had ruined others as well.
I reflected on my life
while in jail and regretted that I did not follow the advice of my old friend
and join Breakthrough Missions. Thereupon, I resolved to quit drugs and lead a
brand new life.
I headed straight for
Breakthrough Missions upon my release in 2016. I have had enough of the 9 jail
terms and 20 years behind bars. I would lead an upright life from now on.
At Breakthrough Missions
I read the Bible daily and drew close to God. I also attended many courses that
nurtured my faith. The more I knew God the more I realized how corrupt my life
had been and I gave myself totally to the Lord, confessed my sins, repented and
received Jesus as the Lord of my life.
When I believed in
Jesus, my life took on a different meaning:
Before
receiving Christ, I enjoyed the pleasure of drugs, smoking, alcohol and
sensuous activities, I’m now sensitive to sin that I would flee from evil and
follow God wholeheartedly.
I used to have drugs delivered
to me from Malaysia. Now I go to Malaysia Breakthrough Missions to teach and
help the brothers quit drugs.
Drugs and drug addicts
were my close companions in the past. Today I walk in the path of faith, God
and fellow Christians are my best friends.
Being
a Breakthrough Missions staff
now, I keep reminding myself, “I will strengthen my brothers –
drug addicts and those in jail who have yet to know Jesus as Lord.”
