The 1970’s was an era infamous of drugs and gangs.  I was then 13 years old.  Living in a convoluted environment, I tried my first puff of marijuana

Soon after that was ecstasy and later, heroin.  I soon became an addict.  To succumb to my addiction, I began to steal, rob and traffic drugs until the police caught me.  And after that, the drug rehabilitation centre and prison became my “second” home.  After my first release from prison, I did try many ways to get rid of drug addiction and hope to become a law abiding citizen.  But, no matter how hard I tried, I failed once and again.  Even my family and friends were constantly being harassed because of my habit.

In 1990 when I was released from a government drug rehabilitation centre, a cousin invited me to church.  That was the first time I stepped into a church and began to make friends with a group of loving brothers and sisters-in-Christ.  Through their love and care, I saw the love of God and finally, accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour.

After knowing God for a period of time, I slowly backslided.  I could vaguely remember, the last time I was handcuffed by a policeman while I was on my way home after purchasing drugs.  Fortunately, they could not find any drug on me.  However, I was detained at the Sembawang government rehabilitation centre for seven days.  I was bailed out with five thousand dollars.  Two weeks later, I passed the urine test and was released due to insufficient evidence.  Although I was a free man, I knew that I had sinned and repented to God, hoping that He would help me find the way out of my despair.

In 2000, I was led to Breakthrough Missions to renew and rediscover my life so that I can experience His abundant grace again.  Now, my family has accepted me totally and my mother was also baptized on Easter of 2000.  My father accepted Christ as his personal Saviour on 27 April, 2003.  The gracious Lord also gave me a gentle and beautiful wife who is my greatest joy.  We have a pair of healthy boys.

Currently, I have been a full staff at Breakthrough Missions for over ten years and have been counseling inmates in prison frequently.  May the Lord continue to use me to help drug addicts break free from the bondage of drugs.  Amen.  “Who will rescue me from this body of death?  Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:24-25)
